STRETCH + STRENGTH

  • This class is for dancers and non-dancers. Using various modalities to increase kinesthetic awareness, improve alignment, strength, and flexibility, this class is designed to enhance dance skills, sport skills, and promote better overall health.

FLOOR-BARRE

THURSDAYS  |  4:00-5:15pm

Ages 10+  |  LIVE Online with Broadway veteran Julie Pappas Smith

  • This class is suitable for all levels and may be especially beneficial for those with alignment problems or injuries.

    Floor-barre can enhance dance technique, as well as increase strength and flexibility. With the participant in various positions on the floor, activities decrease stress on the body, while integrating elements of dance technique, alignment principles, and correct muscle use.

  • This class is suitable for dancers of all levels.

    It will strengthen your core, help you gain flexibility, tone your arms, sharpen isolations, and develop the ability to move in the various styles Broadway dance encompasses. Our classic in-depth warm up is based on Luigi, Matt Maddox and Jack Cole. It’s a fun way to get in shape, but be ready to SWEAT!

TAP

THURSDAYS |  5:30-6:30pm

Ages 12+  |  LIVE Online with Broadway veteran Julie Pappas Smith

  • Students will have fun working on coordination, rhythms, musicality, basic tap terminology and steps for a solid foundation. It’s great for balance and weight distribution! Accuracy through repetition and small combinations will be given. This Tap class is not just for beginners so join us and explore the music we make together!

  • SHOES
    Tap shoes are recommended.

    If you don’t have any:

    – Hard-soled shoes that tie onto your feet.
    – No slip-on or loose fitting shoes.
    – A lower or flat heel is recommended, particularly for first time tappers. 
    – If you have heeled, character shoes from a prior dance experience, the shoes must have a solid, WIDE heel and be under 2 inches.
     
    FLOOR
    Tappers should be tapping on:
    – Wood or vinyl flooring (Be sure it’s ok to do so first, and that it will not scratch the surface).
    – A piece of 3/4 inch plywood, either 3′ x 3′ or 4′ x 4′

  • When a dancer has reached appropriate physical maturity and is taking a minimum of 3 ballet technique classes per week, Pointe work is introduced. Pointe work is an extension of good ballet technique. A strong foundation is a dancer’s key to success.

TAI CHI / QI GONG

  • This beginner level course will introduce participants to a series of gentle, flowing exercises that cultivate harmony and balance in mind and body. Class will include simple stretching, and balance exercises to increase joint mobility, flexibility and balance.
