Please Help Support  North Shore Civic Ballet

Your Donation Will Be Greatly Appreciated.

As we look back on an inspiring 2025, we are deeply grateful for your continued support of the North Shore Civic Ballet Company and the Marblehead School of Ballet. Your generosity helps us nurture artistry, discipline, and creativity in dancers of all ages—and ensures that every student, regardless of financial means, can experience the joy and beauty of dance.

Because of donors like you, we awarded over ten scholarships this year to young children in Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, and Ballet. Recipients included students from LEO, Girls Inc., and Spur families, each taking their first steps in dance thanks to your kindness. One young dancer has already progressed from Creative Movement to Pre-Ballet—a wonderful example of growth made possible through community support. These scholarships do more than fund classes; they open doors to confidence, expression, and opportunity.

Support Dance and the Arts on the North Shore. Volunteer and Donate Items to North Shore Civic Ballet’s Spring Auction.

The North Shore Civic Ballet (NSCB) invites the public to get involved in its annual online spring auction that raises funds to support the performing arts on the North Shore in Massachusetts.  The nonprofit, 501 (c)(3) dance company based in Marblehead, Massachusetts, welcomes volunteers to participate in a number of ways and seek donations of gift cards and gift certificates for services and products to use in the auction.

“The North Shore Civic Ballet’s annual online spring auction raises needed funds for scholarships, new choreography, equipment, costuming and other resources aspiring dancers in the region require to study ballet.  For example, this year we awarded two scholarships to LEO, a nonprofit organization with a mission to strengthen the Greater Lynn community through resources and services that provide opportunities for children, families and individuals to thrive, for two students to attend the Marblehead School of Ballet.  Businesses, as well as patrons, benefit by participating in the auction because people have an opportunity to try restaurants and other experiences they may never have tried,” said Judy Moynihan, member, NSCB board of trustees.

North Shore Civic Ballet Awards Scholarships for LEO Students to Attend Marblehead School of Ballet

The North Shore Civic Ballet (NSCB) announces LEO, Inc., a nonprofit organization headquartered in Lynn, Massachusetts, was awarded scholarships for two students to attend the Marblehead School of Ballet (MSB) in Marblehead, Massachusetts.

The North Shore Civic Ballet, a not-for-profit dance company based in Marblehead, provides support and opportunities for aspiring dancers to attend the Marblehead School of Ballet.  The NSCB and The Ruth N. Shiff Memorial Fund’s supporters provided the funding for the scholarships in partnership with the Marblehead School of Ballet for students unable to afford the tuition to study ballet.

“This year, the North Shore Civic Ballet and the Marblehead School of Ballet are thrilled to sponsor two children from LEO to participate in the school’s Creative Movement classes!  We know what a positive influence dance can have and being able to share that with a child, who might not have had the opportunity otherwise, is a gift to us, said Adora Maharaj, a member of North Shore Civic Ballet’s board of directors.

Thank You For Your Support
From The North Shore Civic Ballet

Dear Friends and Family of the North Shore Civic Ballet,

Once again, we are delighted to share with you all of the exciting moments of 2023 – moments that would not have been possible without your unflagging support. As you know, among the most important benefits of your continuing financial support are the scholarships we can offer young dancers who might not otherwise have the means to experience the rigorous training and individualized guidance that Marblehead School of Ballet offers. Every year we thank you for allowing us to train the next generation of dancers, regardless of their financial situation. This year, however, we have even more to be grateful for: MSB has been able to enroll three little girls from LEO (Lynn Economic Opportunity, Inc.) in our Creative Movement class. When children are still recovering from the trauma of the pandemic, it is even more important to offer them an outlet for self-expression, an opportunity to explore the beauty of movement and music, and we are thrilled to extend those opportunities to the children of Lynn.

Your Donation Will Be Greatly Appreciated.

Dear Friends and Family of the North Shore Civic Ballet,
This season, as we gather around the Thanksgiving table, we will be giving thanks for all of you, our steadfast supporters, without whom we would find it most difficult to not just persevere, but to continue to thrive through the aftermath of the pandemic. Because of you and your unflagging support, we have been able to meet every challenge that recent events have sent our way.
We were thrilled this summer to welcome audiences back into our studios for the first summer intensive performance sponsored by the NSCB since 2019! With choreography by our own Ivan Korn, Nancy Murphy, Carlos Fittante, and Leda Elliot, plus variations by Marius Petipa, staged by Paula Shiff, students from this year’s summer dance intensive performed with the heightened technique and depth of expression they had acquired during the intensive’s classes.

Marblehead School of Ballet to Hold Celebrated Summer Dance Intensives. Summer 2022

Dancers can expand their skills and technique in the Marblehead School of Ballet’s celebrated Summer Intensive Dance 2022 program.  Students of all levels may apply to this dance and cultural gem’s renowned Summer Dance Intensive program presented in a hybrid format in-studio at 15 Pleasant Street in Marblehead on the North Shore of Massachusetts and online this year.

Individualized Instruction in Small Classes

The seasoned and avocational dancer will find personalized training in small classes in the Summer Intensive.  “Our highly trained staff works with each student to assess individual dance and exercise goals.  They cultivate their technical skills and enrich a dancer’s understanding and appreciation of the art form. The internal mechanics of the body are emphasized and not the superficial aspects of style, bringing the dance to a higher level.  The school provides a very strong foundation emphasizing proper technique, including correct alignment, body mechanics and musicality,” explained Paula K. Shiff, Director, Marblehead School of Ballet.

FLORENCE C. WHIPPLE October 29, 1919 - April 27, 2021

It is with a heavy heart I announce the passing of our beloved Florence C. Whipple. She was my dearest friend, confidant, mentor, and at times she was like a mother. Florence was wise, kind, loving, and an inspiration to all who knew her. She joined the Marblehead School of Ballet faculty in 1972. In 1974, Florence and I co-founded the North Shore Civic Ballet. I was blessed to have her in my life for almost 50 years. Her passion for dance, life, and teaching will be greatly missed.

ANITA R. NOVINS Deceased at age 100 | December 5, 1919 - March 31, 2020

It is with a heavy heart, we let you know that Auntie Anita (Anita R. Novins) has passed away. Many at the ballet school know her from her long stint as office manager – she retired not too long ago at age 97. She was a fixture at the school and in the neighborhood, making friends with everyone she met. The great sorrow we are feeling now is only surpassed by the great joy of having had her in our lives for so long. Auntie, we miss you!

          Love,
Paula, her Family, and Ballet Friends
